5 Mistakes That Prevent Healthy Hair Growth

Dreaming of longer, thicker hair? Or maybe you find yourself wishing your locks were healthier, shinier, and more full of life. Either way, we all dream of having healthier hair at one stage or another. You might find that your hair doesn’t seem to be growing anymore, or it’s just not in the best condition. Today, we wanted to share with you some mistakes you might be making that could be preventing healthy hair growth. While there are no magic formulas that will make your locks grow overnight, there are a few things you might be doing that could be harming your chances of growing the long, healthy hair of your dreams!

Excessive washing

You might think that the cleaner your hair is, the healthier it is, right? Unfortunately, this is not the case. Your hair produces natural oils that are great for keeping your strands hydrated and thriving – excessively washing your hair will strip your locks of these natural oils, causing them to become dehydrated and prone to breakage. Try to minimise the number of times you wash your hair in a week and use a dry shampoo in between to refresh!

Not using heat protectant

We know, we know – everyone should know to use a heat protectant! However, it can be easy to start forgetting or skipping it when you’re in a rush. If you’re going to be using heat styling tools on your hair, it’s important to always use a heat protectant to prevent damage. Make it a priority in your styling routine and you’ll notice a difference in your strands.

Trying to fix split ends

Hear us out – we don’t mean just letting your split ends go! Unfortunately, when it comes to split ends, there is no miracle product that will fix them. While there are plenty of things you can do to prevent them in the first place, once they are there, the best thing to do is book in a trim. Leaving them will only cause them to become worse and will lead to a lot of hair damage. We recommend getting your ends trimmed every 6-8 weeks to ensure healthy hair growth.

Going nuts with that towel

We get it – sometimes you’re in a rush and roughly scrubbing your tresses to dry them seems like the only option! While this might seem like a small mistake, roughly towel drying your hair every time you wash can lead to frizz and breakage – not what we want for healthy hair! Instead, always remember to be gentle with your hair, especially when it’s wet and most susceptible to damage. Also, try drying with a microfibre towel!

Forgetting about your lifestyle

While hair care is a massive factor when it comes to healthy hair growth, your lifestyle plays an important part as well! Ensuring that your diet is full of healthy, nutrient-rich foods is a great way to keep your locks in tip-top condition, as is making sure that you are drinking enough water and looking after your body.
