How to Eat Celery & Lose Weight

Celery is not a magic diet food, but it can help you lose weight if used properly as part of an effective weight-loss program. Celery is considered by many a negative-calorie food, which means it takes the body more calories to digest it than the food itself contains. A single stalk of celery has only one calorie. By adding celery to your diet, you can increase your weight loss efforts without much effort.

Step 1
Snack on celery throughout the day. Keep a good number of celery stalks, already washed, in a plastic bag in the fridge. As hunger or cravings strike during the day, simply eat a couple of stalks to squelch appetite.

Step 2
Use hummus or low-fat salsa as dips. These add-ons are low in calories and fat and will add a touch of flavor so you don’t get tired of eating the celery alone. Have a few options available for variety.

Step 3
Eat a couple of boiled eggs and some celery as lunch. The fiber in the celery and the protein in the egg are a good combination to help you fill up and avoid cravings until the next meal. This is also an easy-to-carry lunch if you’re on the go or need to bring something simple to the office.

Step 4
Munch on celery if you’re trying to quit smoking. Every time the urge to smoke attacks, eat some celery. This will keep you away from high-calorie snacks that could make it hard to lose weight as you’re kicking the habit. The same is true if you are prone to eating during times of stress. Because of celery's low calorie content, you can eat as much as you want without adding a significant number of calories to your daily total.

Step 5
Make an apple and celery juice mix to have at breakfast. This can be done easily using a juicer or a blender. Drink a large glass instead of orange juice. The high fiber content of the drink will keep you full so you won’t be hungry too soon after breakfast. The addition of apple will provide a sweet touch as well.
